Unified football, cheerleading registration under way: Registration for Unified Football and Cheerleading at the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority is under way at 300 W. Third St. through Wednesday, July 16. The registration fee is $40.  Football is open to children ages 7-12 and cheerleading is open to girls ages 6-12.  Register by July 1 and receive one free Northside Swim Center pool pass. Pop N  Corn returns: The Village Theatres off Turner McCall are home to this summer's shows each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The cost for the movie, popcorn and drink is $3 per person or $2 for the movie. Showtime is 12:30 p.m. each day. For more, please click POP

Cave Spring Library summer reading program updates: To participate in all Sara Hightower Reading Programs, you must have a valid library card which can be obtained with a parent or guardian at Cave Spring, Cedartown, Rockmart and Rome.  A library card from any of these or other PINES libraries statewide is valid.  All events begin at 2 p.m. with the exception of the teen movies on Saturday, which will start at 11 a.m.  More information can be found at http://www.cavespringlibrary.org/test2.html.

ROME AREA HISTORY MUSEUM CAMPS

Where in the World is Rome, Georgia-Monday July 21

Kids start off history camp with a bang as they engage in an interactive geography lesson and a day of visiting local landmarks designed to teach the fascinating facts and secrets of Rome’s long, rich history.

Lifestyles of the Past-Tuesday July 22

campers spend the morning learning about the daily lives of earlier residents of this area complete with demonstrations and storytelling on the porch.  A field trip to some local landmarks, lessons in traditional crafts, and ga.m. es complete the day.

River Ways-Wednesday July 23

campers will have a dreamy time on a two hour lunch and tour aboard the Roman Holiday designed to teach the importance of the rivers to Rome’s history.  An afternoon of river related arts and crafts completes this day of interactive fun!

Taking a Stand-Thursday July 24

This day is dedicated to learning about events in which the people of Rome were called to take a stand for their beliefs.  Students will explore the Civil Rights Movement and World War II through stories, walking tours and interviews. 

Fun the Old Fashioned Way-Friday July 25

History camp winds down with a day of fun and ga.m. es of the past and a picnic down by the river.  The finale will be an easy going afternoon spent exploring Civil War era music, dance, and refreshments.

The cost of RAHM’s summer camp is $100 for the entire week or $20 per day.

Below are some things you should know before signing your child up for camp:

  •  RAHM’s summer camp is suitable for rising 3rd-6th graders.
  • There is a maximum group number of twenty campers per week.
  • All registration forms and payment are to be received no later than June 9, 2008 for the session beginning June 16th; and no later than July 14th for the session beginning June 21st. 
  • campers should bring a sack lunch Monday-Thursday.  On Friday RAHM will provide lunch.
  • The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROME-FLOYD PARKS AND REC SUMMER CAMPS

The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority is now registering for summer camps.  Register your child for a week or for the summer. Summer Camps offer a variety of activities based on weekly themes. Parents can select a camp from five community locations.  In addition to the traditional summer camp, many new camps have been added this year and include Outdoor Camp, Road Trip Camp, Challenger British Soccer Camp and All Sports Camp.  Tennis Camps and Football Camps are also being offered.  Scholarships are available. All camps are closed on July 4. Families are invited to Ridge Ferry Park starting at 5 pm to enjoy a night of music, games, giveaways, and of course- fireworks!

Enjoy a variety of activities and field trips. Each week offers a new camp theme from Wild Safari week and a field trip to the Runnin' Wild Ranch to Under the Sea and a trip to the Tennessee Aquarium/Imax.
