(From the Knights) Members of the St. Mary’s Church Knights of Columbus Council
presented their Second Annual Servant of the Community Awards at a dinner held at
the Landmark Restaurant on Monday, March 16.
Honored during the dinner were:
>Capt. Larry Lynch, a Rome city firefighter of 34 years.
>Lt. Michael Patterson of Floyd Emergency Medical Services.
>State Patrol Post Commander Chuck Sizemore.
>Shelli Morgan, Service Unit Director for Girl Scouts of Floyd County.![[IM000416-721376.JPG]](images/IM000416-721376.JPG)

Post commander Chuck Sizemore and Bressette Shelli Morgan with Former Grand Knight Cero Pena
Each was nominated by their directors and chosen by the Knights in recognition of their charity and selfless acts in service to others during the past year. Frank Curti, Selection Committee Chair, said: “We decided to honor members of our community because so often we fail to thank those who work daily in service to others.”
Said Sizemore after receiving his award: “In my 22 years serving our community, this is the first time I’ve been publicly thanked for my service and I truly appreciate this sentiment more than you can know.”
Said Andrew Bressette, Grand Knight of Council 4410: "Although locally we are known for our Labor Day Barbecue, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world primarily dedicated to charity and service to those in need. Last year, Knights worldwide
donated $145 million to charitable causes and logged nearly 69 million volunteer hours to local organizations. Because we value charity and service to others, it is fitting that tonight we honor four members of our community who exemplify these ideals through their work within Rome and Floyd County."
The Knights' 2009 Labor Day Barbecue is set for Monday, Sept. 7, at Rome City Center.

Labor Day BBQ: Thank you, Rome, Ga.!
By Andy Bressette
As Grand Knight of the Rome Knights of Columbus Council 4410, I want to express my appreciation to everyone who supported our 41st Annual Labor Day Barbecue. Knights, spouses and their families logged more than 750 volunteer hours cooking 1,900 pound of pork, 400 pounds of beef, 400 chicken halves, 300 gallons of Brunswick Stew and 200 pounds of ribs.
While these numbers may sound impressive, I’m more impressed that the Knights BBQ has become a Roman tradition that brings together families and the community all for a good cause. Families of Knights come together working hard to raise money for charity and families from the community come to relax, enjoy and eat what is arguably the best barbecue in town.
While the final totals aren’t quite in yet, I’m confident we will at least meet last year’s profit of $13,000. This money supports the charitable work of the Knights throughout the
year, especially local charities.
Finally I’d especially like to thank all the businesses that became community sponsors
of the 2008 BBQ. Their sponsorship helped us tremendously and I’d like to encourage
everyone to visit these businesses and thank them for helping the Knights help the
community. We look forward to BBQ 2009!
Andy Bressette
