THE
BUZZ OF GREATER ROME
GET READY FOR THE NIGHT OF 1,000 Ks
This Thursday, at the Rome Braves-Savannah SandGnats game
at State Mutual Stadium, Comcast Sports Southeast
will have its array of TV cameras and crews on the scene beaming the game
across the region.
It will be the first of regular-season South Atlantic League
games CSS broadcasts on primetime cable this year. The Braves
co-star in three others but this is the only one from home.
So to celebrate, The K Club/Strike Out Club and the
Rome Braves Fan Club are adding something special to
the evening: 1,000 yellow-and-black letter-sized Ks.
You've seen Ernie Studard, Bill Pelfrey Jr. and Randy van Horne
holding up those Ks since about this time last season. They post a K for
each time a Braves pitcher strikes out an opponent.
The idea has caught on and you can hear Studard leading the fans in sections
206 and 208 each game with the battle cry, "What Time Is
It?" Their response: "K Time!"
But K Time has never been this loud, this big, this exposed.
Depending on the crowd (and it should be a good one considering Thursday
is two-for-one beverage night), at least a fourth of all those present
will have Ks. (They'll find membership applications for the Rome Braves
Fan Club on the flip side). Imagine how that will look on regional cable
TV.
The only question now is whether Studard can make his way around the
stadium to lead sections of K-flashing fans.
