Second round of storms to stay south of Atlanta

No storms overnight: A pensive night awaiting a second round of potential severe weather has ended with reports that the next storm system should stay to our south. A cold front will sweep through the state today, dropping temperatures that just missed a record on Thursday (77; record is 79 set in 1980). The low tonight and Saturday night: around 32 degrees. Forecast:
-Friday: 50% rain chance, high of 66, low of 31.
-Saturday: Sunny, high of 57, low of 32.
-Sunday: Partly sunny, high of 59, low of 34.

Aftermath of Wednesday's storm
-Floyd County EMA Director Scotty Hancock released the damage assessment conducted by the tax assessor's office for Wednesday's tornado. Estimate: $1.64 million. Report
-About the storm: Says Hancock: "An EF-1 tornado touched down in Floyd County around 10:15 p.m. (time estimated) just west of the Maplewood Subdivision in Rome. The tornado traveled 3.25 miles, with a maximum path width of 75 yards and a maximum estimated wind speed of 95 mph.
-"The greatest damage was along Kingston Highway where the entire roof was ripped off a manufactured home. Hundreds of trees were uprooted or snapped. In addition, a few power poles were snapped."
-Model, Johnson area schools open Friday: Model High School, Model Middle School, Model Elementary School, Johnson Elementary School and the Floyd County Education Center will be open Friday as power has been restored.
-Georgia Power: All 2,200 customers who lost power Wednesday night are back online.

Advance voting for primary, special elections available Saturday
-Media release: Shea Hicks, the chairperson of the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, reminds voters that they will be able to cast their ballot during advance in-person voting on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office at 101 S. Piedmont St., Calhoun. The ballot includes the Presidential Preference Primary and Special Election that will be held on Tuesday, March 6.
